Electric fences are applied in a very wide range of scenarios. Besides anti-theft and anti-illegal-intrusion functions, they can also protect important equipment and prevent man-made damage in certain fields.
It is reported that in 2012 the cooling tower at Xixiang Station of Shenzhen Metro Line 1 suddenly caught fire. Investigation found that people lived around the burning cooling tower and there were a large number of cigarette butts; the fire was caused by external factors. This incident also sounded the alarm for the safety of cooling towers and other equipment on other metro lines.
According to relevant authorities, to ensure the normal operation of Shenzhen Metro Line 3, the Shenzhen metro management department set up an electric fence perimeter security system around the above-ground cooling towers of the Longgang section of Line 3, to prevent man-made damage to the cooling-tower equipment that would affect normal metro operation.
Compared with passive protection facilities such as infrared beam detectors, the electric fence system, which focuses on blocking and deterrence and uses alarm reminder as a supplement, is more effective. The electric fence is currently one of the most advanced perimeter security products, widely used in water sources, power plants, substations, high-speed railway stations, residential communities, factories, schools, parking lots, ranches, airports, military facilities and other places. Today, the protective wall formed by electric fences has greatly strengthened the security of metro facilities and added a safety lock to their normal operation.
